Education is Empowerment

Don’t call this a dummy.
This is a smart investment by Macon County public school administrators who are preparing students to succeed in college or careers.
Called a Training Manikin, these simulated life forms are wired to mimic important aspects of the human body so that students can get training on patient assessments, interventions and clinical decision-making.
This is the basis of the Health Science program that is under the guidance of Ms. Tumie Arkadie. She is a registered nurse who is currently teaching 83 Macon County students in a hands-on learning environment.
Recently, the community was given a firsthand look at the wide range of workforce development programs offered by Macon County public schools. The classes are taught by established professionals who are committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Students are learning Aerospace Engineering, AgriScience, Business Administration, Computer Technology, Cosmetology, Fire Safety and Prevention, Health Science, Industrial Maintenance and more. The Automotive Manufacturing program even has robotics equipment.
The skills taught are of such high caliber that students are positioned for business and industry credentials after completing the high school programs. And through a partnership with Trenholm State Community College, Macon County high school students may participate in a dual enrollment project and take free college classes that lead to technical degrees.
This is a sophisticated program offered by the Macon County Board of Education and led by Dr. Melvin Lowe who believes Macon County students have the intelligence and talent to succeed in school and in life.
